Bone Grafting

When a tooth is lost, the bone that supported the tooth shrinks over time. The majority of this bone loss occurs in the months after a tooth is removed.

This bone loss can be temporarily minimized by the placement of bone grafting material at the time of the tooth removal. This procedure is called ridge preservation.

When there is inadequate bone in which to place dental implants,  bone grafting can often be done to regenerate the lost bone. This can be done either at the time of implant placement or before implant placement, depending on the amount of bone grafting required.
